When I was 8 years old, my father got me a beautiful Amazon parrot, named Koko. Despite being a difficult character, Koko soon became my best friend and I learned everything about him. Today, I am going to share with you some tips, that could make life at its new home easier for your parrot.
You should prepare a comfortable cage for your parrot. Perches should be placed low, in order for your little pet to grasp them and climb them easily. If the cage is too small, a fall could be traumatic for your little friend.
The cage size should be comfortable. Nobody likes to live in a small house, let alone a parrot who likes to climb and hang upside down like a bat.
A cage full of toys is like a paradise for your parrot, that will keep your pet entertained for hours, even when you are away working or are unable to play with your friend.
Place a smaller cage in a quiet room for your parrot to sleep. There your pet will be able to enjoy its necessary 10 hours sleep.
You should provide your pet many toys, mainly wooden or made out of stainless steel, which will be frequently disinfected and changed, so as to not get boring. The parrot is smart creature and like all creatures with great intelligence, can be bored to death.
Speak to your parrot often and teach it to be social, to get along with all your family members.
Feed it with a good mixture of seeds, fresh fruits and vegetables, as well as clean water every day! Nuts are also essential for him, as is yellow cheese or chicken, which provide your pet the necessary proteins to have a bright plumage.
You shouldn’t cut your pet’s wings, but if you still want to do it, then cut only the 5 first flight wings. This way, your little parrot will still be able to fly.
Many birds often want a quiet corner for a nap or to relax. Respect its needs and don’t disturb these moments!
When you your parrot does something you don’t like, the best approach is to fool it by something else. Avoid scolding your pet or shouting. Parrots are very intelligent birds and have their own character. They might end up disliking you.
Lastly, you should be very careful, if there are other animals at your home.
