To train your new kitten, you need to know how she thinks and how she behaves. Cats certainly are not like dogs. Dogs are herd animals, who wish to satisfy their “leader” (owner). Cats are more interested in satisfying themselves.
However, with empathy and patience, there is no reason to be unable to train your kitten. Indeed, it is important to do so. Because, if not, then how will you be able to pamper your kitten or check her health? And do you really want her to walk on your kitchen counters?
-The first thing is to realize that cats don’t really understand the concept of punishment. It is more effective to encourage the good behavior. Sounds difficult? Just remember: respect, reinforce and reward.
– Respect: It is important to behave in a friendly for the cats’ manner. Did you know, for example, that cats hate the persistent look or that they cannot withstand sudden noises or movements?
– Reinforcement: This just translates to consistency and repetition. If your cat does something that you wish it didn’t (like jumping on the kitchen counters), then you should always say no, gently but firmly. If your cat does something you want to encourage, then you should make a big fuss.
– Reward: There are two types of rewards – praises and a tasty treat. Both are a great stimulus for your kitten.
